Technical Background

Having great advantages such as high energy density, long service life and no memory effect, lithium-ion battery has been widely applied in the fields of cell phone, laptop, electric vehicle and others. With the large demand for lithium ion battery, the capacity of lithium extraction from lithium bearing hardrock is also increasing.

Technology introduction

After accurate measurement, a certain amount of β-lithium spodumene and concentrate sulfuric acid are fully mixed in a continuous non-gravity mixer, then the mixed material is sent into the acidizing kiln through the feed screw conveyor, where chemical reaction takes place under certain temperature and pressure.


The screw conveyor at kiln outlet conveys the acidified material into the rotary cooler to cool it down to 80°C, and make sure the acidified material is ready for the next process. The high temperature acid gas generated during the acidizing process is exported from the kiln header duct and sent to the exhaust recovery system for further treatment.


The heat required for the acidification reaction is provided by the high temperature hot flue gas which was produced by the full combustion of the external fuel gas and air, and the flue gas is fully recycled in the process.

By adopting an externally heated rotary acidifier to replace the original endothermic acidifier, the amount of flue gas and dust generated during the acidification process has been significantly reduced. This innovation not only addresses the challenges of recycling sulfuric acid and dust from the exhaust gases in the endothermic acidizing furnace but also enhances economic benefits by eliminating the emission of waste gases and wastewater. Furthermore, it makes a substantial contribution to environmental protection.

In response to the characteristics of lithium ore acidification and roasting reactions, the externally heated rotary kiln employs an external heating jacket only for the necessary sections of the equipment. Subsequent reactions proceed spontaneously through exothermic processes, eliminating the need for additional energy input. This results in a remarkable energy-saving effect.

The heat transfer efficiency is high, the operating environment is favorable, and the cooling medium facilitates efficient heat recovery after the heat transfer process.
